Re-encoding a GIF may change colors slightly because of the 256-color palette. Trimming often reduces file size, but it does not guarantee a smaller download.
GIF trimming (also called a GIF cut or GIF cutter) shortens an animated GIF by keeping a continuous time or frame range. Unlike cropping, trimming is temporal: the picture size stays the same, and only duration changes.

A few practical tips help you cut GIF length without losing the motion you want.
- Preview the selected range before exporting — playback loops only that segment
- Use Time mode to trim GIF duration in seconds
- Use Frames mode to cut frames from a GIF at exact positions
- Reset range if you need the full original animation again
- Keep original frame delay unless you intentionally want a different speed
- Expect file size to change after re-encoding — trim is not a compressor
